Best Friends helps 9th Life Hawaii

9th Life Hawaii recently agreed to help in a terrible hoarding situation in Wailuku. About 50 cats and a large number of chickens were being neglected by a sick elderly couple. Many cats had terrible eye ulcers and Upper Respiratory Infections and many were starving. Phyllis Tavares, executive director, appealed to Best Friends Animal Society for help with the major veterinary bills to help these cats. They agreed and also wrote an article which is on their website. Please follow the link below to read the entire story.

Beautiful kittens in search of a loving home

Two female beauties about 10 weeks old are looking for a loving home. Just look at those golden eyes on Goldie. Truly a Black Beauty with startling gold/copper eyes that are sure to mesmerize you. Her best buddy a gorgeous Tortoise Shell Tabby with lots of white named Makana (Gift in Hawaiian). Makana is sweet, somewhat shyer than Goldie. Goldie comes with a guarantee too. She is guaranteed to purr as soon as she sees you. A real purr machine with lots of love to share. We do not want to separate these two. Special adoption fee to the purrson who will love them both.

November 11 Neuter Clinic

9th Life Hawaii holds neuter clinics every 30-45 days. Spay clinics are held less frequently. A $25.00 donation ( or more ☺) is requested but will be waived in cases of hardship. We do require $25.00 to hold the surgery slot. The check is refunded if it is a hardship as long as the cat is brought to the clinic to be sterilized. We do not turn anyone away if they cannot make a donation. 9th Life Hawaii's philosophy is that spay/neuter is the ONLY acceptable method of decreasing feline overpopulation. Killing companion animals is not acceptable as a method of population control. It is not the answer and it does NOT work. Check out www.alleycat.org to find out why.

So please call 572-3499 to book a spot for your MALE cat on November 11. And please spread the news so your friends can get their cats neutered as well.

Thank you!

The kitten pictured below will be available for adoption in November. His feral mama was rescued right before she gave birth and her kittens will be socialized and adopted out to loving homes.

*New* Senior to Senior Program

9th Life Hawaii is pleased to announce a new program to link our more mature cats with seniors. Research has now corroborated what pet lovers have known for a VERY long time: That having a companion animal as a pet increases the life span of seniors. Not only increases their life span, but having a companion pet also decreases depression and studies now verify that seniors (human) have fewer medical issues and live healthier lives as well.

With all these tremendous benefits to our senior human population, 9th Life Hawaii is embarking on a new program to link seniors with our mature cats. We even have volunteers that can bring cat food and kitty litter to the seniors home or take the cat to a vet if the senior is housebound. This makes it real easy for a senior to enjoy the loving companionship of a purring, devoted pal.

However, many seniors are afraid to adopt a pet because they worry about what we call "What If?". What if there should come a day when the senior can no longer care for their beloved cat. We have a simple solution. We will take the cat back. No questions asked. And because we are a NO KILL Shelter, the cat is assured a safe, loving environment and it might even be adopted out again.

We invite phone calls from seniors and their family members as well who may be interested in helping an aging parent get involved in this program. You can reach us at 808-572-3499 or email us at 9thlifehawaii@earthlink.net You can view some of our many kitties on our website at www.9thlifehawaii.org

Losing a leg

Broken Tail is a sweet and friendly rescued cat from Molokai. He knows his name and comes when he's called! When he's happy, he drools and he loves wrapping his tail around a little tree in the yard.

He now calls 9th Life Hawaii home and is very happy to be here after having no one to feed him on Molokai. He has a tumor on his foot and he needs his leg amputated. This surgery is going to be extremely expensive ($700+) and unfortunately 9th Life's funds are very low at the moment and we have many cats to provide for. If you can help, please email or go to http://www.9thlifehawaii.org. Thank you!
